Let's look at the basics of tuning in to shortwave using the WebDSR. The key word is BASICS. This is not an exhaustive tutorial. There are additional buttons/features we will not cover here, as they are for intermediate/advanced users. For  now, this section is aimed at new users.

To tune the radio, type your desired frequency in the Frequency box at left, under the Waterfall. The WebSDR will go to it automatically, and the Waterfall will adjust by centering on that frequency. In the example below, we have typed in 11650 as the frequency.

Some shortwave broadcasts are transmitted on lower sideband, or on upper sideband. You can click the LSB or USB buttons to fine tune, as noted in the image above. When LSB is selected, the yellow tuning line will appear slightly to the left of (lower than) the frequency. When USB is selected, the yellow tuning line will appear slightly to the right of (higher than) the frequency.

You may wish to change how the Waterfall appears. Another set of buttons just to the right allows each user to manually zoom in/out, and drop-down menus offer choices to customize the Waterfall speed, size, and view type:

As referenced in the image above, the buttons at far right allow the user to mute the WebSDR, adjust the volume and squelch, and even capture audio recordings locally as a .WAV file.

Don't forget that you can enable your keyboard to control things:

For the basics of tuning, that's all there is to it. Practice makes perfect!
